For this project last spring, we were challenged to create our own magazine to show and practice our skills in layout and design. I chose to create a fictional magazine called DIY Try Magazine with a target audience of handy, creative and ambitious individuals - namely young and middle-aged adults.
This project consumed a lot of time, but I enjoyed doing it. While the images and advertisements were not my own design, the way everything was arranged and styled was. My hope was that the font choices and layout were eye-pleasing to those viewing it. The spreads that I am most proud of are the Etsy Showcase spread and the simplistic design of the Tiny Living article. The idea for the Etsy Showcase came from the knowledge of the leading handcrafted sales website online and I felt that if there were section most deserving of it's own spot in a magazine, that Etsy would be the first choice. Advertisements were expected and I did some research as to what kinds of products you might see advertised in magazines about DIY and I chose the ads that I felt real magazines would use.
